Biotechnology is the emerging field of innovating technology to revolutionise the all-round exploitation of the biological treasure for the welfare of mankind. It is the thrust area for the 21st century in the industrial sector of the West with a potential market of US $ 300 billion per annum. Indian biotech industry is expected to grow at the rate of 15% touching about US $ 585 million by 2005.
The B.P. Poddar Foundation for Education has established an Institute of excellence to coordinate higher education and research with industry linkage. The higher education unit is engaged in imparting education in modern science subjects related to Biotechnology at Degree (Hons.) level with intake of Research Scholars and Associates for their PhD Degree through R & D project work.
